I would like to avoid wasting time if possible, I know that people have gotten root on these devices before, and again I would be really appreciative if someone could point me to a tutorial or at least something that would assure me that I can su access on my shield so that I can make the permission changes needed for plugins like Subzero. I think that I need to use the developer images on the Nvidia developer site but it says that they are legacy and not supported anymore and also that even on the rooted image that the 'su' utility is not included. I have been scouring the Internet for a tutorial on rooting this device and I have come up empty. If anyone knows how to root the 2017 Nvidia Shield 16gb (mine is running latest shield experience 9.0.x hot fix 2 from Nvidia, Android 11, which has been a huge pain nightmare and I wish I never installed it) I would be forever grateful. I can only assume that these same permission changes need to be made on Android, but it is not possible without Root access.

I should note that I am not rooted, and I believe that having Root access is something that is nescessary for plugins to work on the shield, since, at least for SubZero plugin, requires permission changes to the folders using su when described on Linux. Removing the plugins has made the system stable again. However it seemed that once once of these plugins got triggered it completely broke my server, the Plex Media Server app would just continually start and stop and I essentially had to completely uninstall/reinstall/reset PMS on the shield 😞

So I did get Colima, HAMA, ASS, and Subzero installed on the shield and they showed up and appeared to work.
